In 2011, thanks to the efforts of the Big Bend Arts Council, the City of Alpine was designated one of only 16 Cultural Districts in the entire State of Texas by the Texas Commission on the Arts. A framed certificate commemorating this event is on display in the BBAC Gallery on the Square.
Member artists share the responsibility for running the gallery. The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily; closed on Wednesdays.
ARTWALK is an especially significant event for the Big Bend Arts Council. The organization conducts its annual membership drive and encourages all who appreciate and wish to support the arts in our region to join. Annual membership dues are $25. The BBAC is currently showing a Members’ Exhibit at the Gallery on the Square. In addition to gallery artists, the Members’ Exhibit gives all BBAC members an opportunity to display and sell their work. Out of town visitors will see an impressive array of artistic talent and creativity and will have the opportunity to meet the artists at the gallery each evening of ARTWALK.
