Last Friday May 2nd Alpine’s Gallery Night, Inc. 2nd annual mural fundraiser was a hit. Many locals and visitors attended the free event at Cow Dog and Plaine. There was live music by Hogan and Moss, free beer from Big Bend Brewing Company, the revealing of the much anticipated new mural, t-shirts, postcards and posters. The weather that evening was perfect; guests’ danced to wonderful music, ate famous Cow Dogs, hula hooped with wild energy, drank Alpine’s coldest beer and socialized with each other.
The kickoff party for this year’s mural project raised $2,088 in donations along with merchandise sales and donations to become a 1 square foot mural member. For a $20 donation you can help paint 1 square foot of the new “Mercado” mural. There are 789 square feet to paint so there are many more mural members needed. You can go by Kiowa Gallery or Brown Dog Gardens to become a member. All members will receive a magnet, postcard and a decal of the mural.
Other ways you can donate are by buying a calendar date for your family or loved one’s birthday. The calendar dates are $500, your name or your business will be painted on the new calendar under the mural and will remain there forever. It will also appear on the September calendar that we will produce at the end of the year. Contact Keri Blackman at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in donating to this community project.
Alpine has been a very caring, kind, giving community that supports public art and realizes the role that it has increasing tourism. We are proud to be able to create another mural project and give this new “Mercado” mural to the spirited residents of west Texas.
