Friday May 2nd from 6-9 P.M. at Cow Dog and Plaine, Alpine’s Gallery Night Board of Director’s invites the public to come to its 2nd annual mural fundraiser. This year’s mural will be located on the east end of the Big Bend Wool and Mohair on Murphy Street, donated by Bob and Lucy Ward. We will reveal the new mural concept, sell dates for the September calendar, serve free cold Big Bend Brewing Company beer and have live music by Hogan & Moss to dance to. Alpine’s only coffee shop, Plaine, will be open serving fresh hot coffee and delicious ice cream cones or you can go to Cow Dog, Alpine’s #1 food truck, where they will be selling their world famous hot dogs, so bring your appetite.
Last year we were successful in raising over $28,000 for the Poco A Poquito mural painted during the Viva Big Bend music festival in July. The funds were used to resurface, prime and paint the new mural. To raise part of the funds we sold the dates of the month of July for $500 each. The sponsor then had their name painted on the calendar part of the mural and on the calendar that we produced and sold at the end of the year. This year we have already begun selling dates for the month of September, it is filling up fast. It is a great way for individuals, businesses, corporations and ranchers to show their support for this worth while community project. Our goal is to paint several murals throughout Alpine and eventually make Alpine a mural town.
Alpine has been a very caring, kind giving community that supports public art and realizes the role that it has increasing tourism. Fundraising has begun through the support of the City of Alpine through Hotel/Motel funds, grants from Texas Commission on the Arts, generous donations from the CF Ranch and the Porter’s Thriftway, and selling the dates on the calendar we can make this new mural a reality. Come support our mural project, have a cold beer, kick your heels up, do some boot scooting to live music and get your Cow Dog fix.
